Adriano Directo Emperado (June 16, 1926 - April 4, 2009) Known as “Sijo”Adriano D. Emperado one of five Martial Artist who formed the Black Belt Society of Hawaii, along with Walter Choo a welterweight boxing champion and Tang Soo Do practitioner; Frank Ordenez, a Judo and Jujitsu master; Joe Holke, a Kudokan Judoka practitoner; Clarence Chang, a Northern and Southern sil-lim Kung Fu stylist. By trial and error, the system of Kajukenbo would gradually be developed starting in 1947.

The name Kajukenbo stood for various parts that comprise the Black Belt Society. “K A” stood for Karate, “JU” for Judo, “KEN” for Kenpo, and “BO” for Chinese Boxing. These arts together make up one of the toughest forms of self-defense to date.
